Ida is now back to a tropical storm as it aims at a collision with the upper Gulf Coast overnight, the National Hurricane Center said in a 10 a.m. advisory.

All hurricane warnings and watches along that area were canceled, but tropical storm warnings continue from Grand Isle, Louisiana, east to the Aucilla River in Florida’s Big Bend area.

Top sustained winds were now down to 70 mph and more weakening was expected before landfall, the advisory said.

The storm is affecting Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast, at least indirectly; strong winds tormenting commuters this morning are expected to persist into the afternoon.

At 10 a.m., the storm was about 285 miles south-southwest of Pensacola. It was moving north at a brisk 17 mph and was expected to turn to the north, then north-northeast, bringing it ashore Tuesday morning.

It was forecast to then turn east across northern Florida.

The next advisory is set for 1 p.m.
